THE BASIC DESIGN IDEA
Consists in necessity to project the main object - the Tower - as the centre of accomplished all-sufficient complex in the main park of the Central area which is a dominant architectural and planning decisions of all building area.
At the current moment there is such town-planning situation around construction area of City Tower, that, for example, looking from bridge Yeongjong {island WoonRyoung}, it is possible to see dynamical horizon and clear outlines of the city environment, low-rise buildings prevail {"horizontally focused"}, but there are and some vertical dominants {such, as the main tower of bridge Incheon in height 230.5?}. All of them are extremely functional and pragmatic, repeat on architectural image motives of international style that widespread in the majority of cities of all over the world. This style is faceless enough, ill-defined; it does not underline an originality of the given region, its cultural features and exclusiveness.
Our aim on concept-idea working out is design such complex that City Tower will not be one more ordinary construction which becomes habitual and unattractive one very fast. Therefore designers have at once refused use of a strict vertical and serious-pragmatic approach to creation of image. The main group of functions provided with a complex - relaxation, the entertainments combined with expansion of mental outlook. Therefore it was decided to form a little ironic image, appealing to sense of visitors’ humor, offering them to relax, look aside overwhelming sensation of a daily intense rhythm of a life of the modern person. Authors would like the construction originally caused a wide spectrum of emotions in people of various cultural traditions.
Authors have seen an image of a tower reminding natural objects-analogues - trunks and stalks of a bamboo, a reed, a cane - which grow on the bank of a water stream or lake and wave by a wind.
Some can consider, that such form is silly and ask questions as: «Why is it such humpbacked ?»
Others can see its ridiculous, reminding naive children`s drawings.
The third would come to sensation of that the tower at observed form misbalance is truly calculated on geometrically, amazes with the constructive decision.
The fourth will be surprised by riches of associative arrays and polysemy of the figurative decision. It reminds a pestle of a huge flower {for example, lilies} or a flashed meteor in the sky; or reminds a huge mythical dragon who bears prosperity to a city and all Korea.
The fifth will be convinced of architectural advantages of a tower, that its composition is dynamical, has scale effect and expresses modern art tendencies, its image is exclusive, in the whole world there is no similar.
We believe that the architecture of such tower will leave nobody indifferent. The prospective decision deeply worked and reflects truly Korean traditions. After all superficial, imitative decisions of a tower in the form of a pagoda or other historical and architectural monuments of the Korean culture in this case are unacceptable.
Such condition of competition as «Historical and cultural reflection of value Cheongna, being a gate to Asia», has defined the additional factor of a choice the concept - necessity to consider traditional values and features of vital philosophy, that are characteristic for cultures of the Far East.
So, the traditional doctrine for region about «yan sign» and «yin sign» has found such reflexion in our project. The tower is painted in red colour {«colour yan»}, and a complex at its bottom - in blue-violet colours {«colour yin»}.
