In Mexico City, in a residential area called Polanco, this four story building contains three apartments organized in relation to three gardens. The street setback creates the first garden, where the public activities take place. In the back it becomes private, looking out to a garden of ferns and a beautiful existing tree. The central garden generates an interior view, a void to bring in light and circulate freely around the apartment. To edit the view to the street, we created different triangular cuts in the three levels, providing the interior space with double heights that articulate themselves within the space on upper or lower floors, sometimes invading another apartment. The distribution of the program concentrates the service areas on the sides of the courtyard.
