Digital art, network, numeric, subway {underground railway}

Through what means may digital art become more accessible and known of the general public? Maybe in places like museums? This is a question that one can ask. We need to think of a different place that will bring new experiences to the public.

The idea came from one of the specific characters of digital art, that is the fact that it’s a new technology {numeric or immaterial}. Therefore, the place should be more flexible. For example, we can think of a many places for the same exhibit, instead of just one big place.

We have thought of presenting digital arts in a subway station, since the subway embodies the notion of network and symbolizes the rapid transmission of information, and the station itself is a commuting point where many people come and go. Both elements represent the idea of fast growing and modern cities, such as Paris, as well as the urban and contemporary aspects associated to digital arts.

RATP {Régie Autonome des Transports Parisiens} should be an important partner for the exhibit, since it could take in charge transmission of data, observation via camera, and management. To illustrate the concept, cubes {micro spaces} will be installed on the platforms of selected subway stations {a lot of station are monotonous and not really attractive, to the exception of Guimard station}. The space will be of free access to public, who can chose to view all or part of the exhibit, depending on the project. For some Parisians or for tourists, it can be interesting and attractive events {travel and exhibition}.

As the project comprises of placing micro spaces presenting digital arts on popular places, it will enable the public to encounter digital arts in an easy and accessible way. In addition, the concept of cubes can become a new landmark of Paris, and can achieve incorporating digital arts in people’s day to day activities.
