Architect Thom Mayne to receive MacDowell Medal

Architect Thom Mayne will be the 49th recipient of the Edward MacDowell Medal to be presented in Peterborough, New Hampshire, in August.

The medal given by The MacDowell Colony is awarded to someone who has made an outstanding contribution to the arts.

Mayne is the founder of the architectural firm Morphosis, whose projects have ranged from the Alaska State Capitol building to the Sun Tower in Seoul, Korea. The firm, based in Santa Monica, California, has also been involved in The MIR Project, a group of architectural firms looking to rebuild areas hard-hit by Hurricane Katrina.

The medal is named in honor of Edward MacDowell, America`s first internationally recognized composer and founder of the famed artists`
