A glittering line-up of speakers has been announced to take part in events at A Gathering Space, Scotland’s presence at this year’s Venice Biennale.

Frank Gehry and Zaha Hadid will both take part in the keynote Lighthouse debate at 2pm on Friday September 12, a talk chaired by Charles Jencks, co-founder of the Maggie’s cancer care centres, exploring the Biennale’s theme of Architecture Beyond Building.

A Gathering Space is a competition-winning timber structure boasting a twisting staircase above an indoor auditorium, designed by Gareth Hoskins for Scotland’s architecture centre The Lighthouse, and located close to the city’s new Calatrava bridge.

Nick Barley, director of The Lighthouse, said projects like the Maggie’s centres –designed by a range of international architects including Hadid and Gehry – illustrated the fact that architecture can make a “tangible difference to our lives”.
