Japan Architecture News - Aug 08, 2008 - 11:51 4808 views
Arata Isozaki has always seen himself as a descendent of humanists inthe western tradition, and he has chosen a career of thinking aboutarchitecture through his practice of it. At one point, he becameinspired by the multitalented bunjin of Sung Period China – thescholarly men of letters who practiced calligraphy and painting.
He too would like to extend himself beyond the bounds of being an architect, and expand his horizons.
On the occasion of his 77th birthday this year, he has selected 7themes to show 7 pieces of his work at 7 different venues around theworld during this year. He has chosen 7 pieces representing the entirespectrum of his work and will convey each of them through variousmedia, such as exhibitions, conferences and publications.
