OMA is delighted to announce that De Rotterdam has been awarded Best Tall Building in Europe by the Council for Tall Buildings and The Urban Habitat (CTBUH).

In addition to being awarded in the Europe region, De Rotterdam has been nominated by CTBUH for Best Tall Building Worldwide, along with three other finalists from Asia and Australasia, America, and The Middle East and Africa.

CTBUH describes the 2014 winner of the Europe region: "De Rotterdam is an exercise in formal interpretation that is at once reminiscent of an imported mid-century American skyscraper, but epitomizes the off-center experimentalism of modern Dutch art of the foregoing century. The nighttime twinkling of the lights indicating different programs throughout the day lends dynamism and contributes to the humanization of the monoliths."

The ceremony to present the four regional awards and announce Best Tall Building Worldwide will take place in Chicago in November. This is the second year running that OMA's designs have been given recognition from CTBUH; in 2013 OMA's CCTV Headquarters in Beijing was awarded both Best Tall Building in Asia and Australasia and Best Tall Building Worldwide.
