Paul Cocksedge’s “Palette” for GREAT Festival of Creativity, Istanbul

Paul Cocksedge has designed the centrepiece installation for the inaugural GREAT Festival of Creativity, which recently took place in Istanbul, 20-22 May 2014.
“Palette” is a piece that celebrates Britain and Turkey, their historical connections, trade and culture. Using translucent circles of varying sizes, the piece takes as its starting point the colour ratios of each the national flags of the two countries. The colours of each flag at either end gradually dissolve as they meet in the middle to create a unique chromatic blend: an entirely new colour made up from the constituent parts of the two flags, symbolising this collaboration of creativity between Turkey and the UK.
Paul Cocksedge adds:“What I enjoy about Palette is the way it only comes to life in this setting, when the transparency of the material re-defines and celebrates the landscape beyond it: the trees and plants, the sea, the sky… on its own it is not complete”.
The GREAT Festivals are a dynamic celebration of creativity in business, and the start of a new dialogue between global enterprises by providing the opportunity to get a deeper understanding of how creativity, from Britain and beyond, is playing a crucial role in global business growth. The first of three GREAT Festivals, Istanbul offered an exclusive view of all that’s best in fashion, design, luxury, technology, education, food, drink and above all creativity.
