“In architecture,” Christopher W. Mount said, “people always think of the final product.” A longtime museum curator, Mr. Mount is hoping to interest design fans and collectors in the means to that end: The Christopher W. Mount Gallery in Los Angeles, which has opened inside the Pacific Design Center, will offer maquettes, design drawings, photographs and other artifacts by prominent figures related to architecture and design.
“These are the kinds of things that have been collected by museums for many years,” Mr. Mount said.
The inaugural exhibition, “A Modern Master: Photographs by Balthazar Korab,” features fine art images by the prominent architectural photographer who died last year. An exhibit planned for this fall will focus on design drawings made in the 1960s and ’70s for Detroit automakers.
Describing both shows, if not his gallery’s mission statement, Mr. Mount said, “It’s work that is not strictly the commercial or the fine art, but somewhere in between.” Information: christopherwmountgallery.com.
