Two of the world’s hottest young designers unpick the role of innovation within architecture
Following the success of the Architecture& discussions at the V&A, monthly debates exploring the critical intersection between architecture and other disciplines, The AR is delighted to announce a fifth and final event to conclude the series.
On Tuesday the 28th of May former OMA director Ole Scheeren and interior designer Ab Rogers will discuss architecture and innovation at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
The series of debates has proved extremely popular with high profile speakers going head to head to sold-out auditoria. Last month architecture critic William JR Curtis and the British artist and curator Richard Wentworth discussed architecture and meaning while architect Will Alsop duelled with Stephen Bayley, design guru and author of the book Ugly – The Aesthetics of Everything, over architecture’s relationship with beauty.
Ole Scheeren is principal of Buro Ole Scheeren and a former partner with Rem Koolhaas at OMA where he directed the office’s work across Asia. Schreeren is the architect of some of the most self-consciously iconic contemporary buildings in the world including OMA’s CCTV building in Beijing. In 2012 Scheeren’s archipelago cinema was unveiled floating in a lagoon of the Koh Tao Noi island off the Cambodian coast which later traveled to the Venice Biennale. His practice has offices in Beijing, London and Hong Kong where he is a visiting professor at the Hong Kong University.
Ab Rogers is a designer and Director of Interior Design at the Royal College of Art. Rogers is Creative Director of Ab Rogers Design, a multi-disciplinary practice based in London whose clients included Tate Modern, Pompidou Centre Paris, Capital Museum Beijing and Heston Blumenthal’s Fat Duck.
