Review: Thom Mayne`s Cahill Center at CalTech
United States Architecture News - Feb 17, 2009 - 17:36 10150 views
The three-story, 100,000-square-foot building, which stretches itslong, low, fractured mass along a prominent site on CaliforniaBoulevard, engages the city -- and the public -- more pointedly thanany other of the university`s buildings. It seems eager to start aconversation or pick a fight, depending on your point of view, aboutthe appeal of aggressively contemporary architecture. It has been themost anticipated of the many campus building projects initiated onCaltech`s leafy, low-rise campus by David Baltimore, the biologist andNobel laureate who was president of the university from 1997 to 2006.
