Holzrausch Studio creates a tranquil wooden retreat in the heart of Paris

German design practice Holzrausch Studio created a sanctuary that celebrates woodworking while bringing tranquility to a bustling Parisian area in France.
This secret family home with a beautiful garden at the end is not only surprising but also uncommon for Paris. Named Loui Paris, the house is located behind a closed gate and past a meandering road across a long courtyard.
Situated in the busy and crowded 11th arrondissement, it is a beautiful haven of tranquility, a woodland rhapsody that contrasts peacefully with the outside world.

"They wanted an interior defined by calm and simplicity, deliberately avoiding anything trendy or Instagram-driven," explained Tobias Petri, cofounder and design lead at Holzrausch.
"As a former model and gallery owner and a creative himself, the client was naturally drawn to our focus on material quality and restraint," Petri added.

What is used in the kitchen are only a few materials—plaster, stone, oak, and stainless steel—that stand out right away.
“Despite her work in the art world, they wanted nothing to disturb the calmness of the interior—no decorative elements, no art,” added Petri.
The majority of the furniture is built-in, all lighting is recessed, and appliances are concealed behind wooden doors. Since every window in this L-shaped building faces the courtyard, the skylights and façade are modern, but the concrete floors were retained.

The sculptural staircase, which distributes light throughout the entire house, was shaped by the necessity of bringing in natural light from above. Its wood complements the tasteful oak used for the furnishings and wall panels.

The house is around 3,800 square feet (353 square meters) in size, with a private garden at the front and four stories, including a small basement.
The undulating staircase, which serves as the house's spine and lets in natural light from the skylight above, is its main feature.

The doors open to the garden in warm weather, bringing indoor-outdoor living into daily life. For a family of four, the home has four bedrooms and four bathrooms.
Craftspeople and specialists came from a number of nations, including Denmark for the large oak floors, Italy for the plasterwork, and Denmark for the lighting.

The company started out as a small wood workshop before branching out into interior design and incorporating all of the business's output.
The workshop and the design department are housed under one roof, and a few years later they opened their design studio, which is now their main emphasis.

"Many clients come directly to us because the distance between design and fabrication is extremely short," said Petri. He describes Holzrausch as simultaneously interior designers, interior architects, and master carpenters.
“Our philosophy has always been simplicity, minimalism, and timelessness—this project reflects that completely,” Petri said.
"The name ‘Holzrausch’ is difficult to translate. It expresses a fascination with materials—wood among them, but not exclusively- and this mindset is visible throughout the project," he added.
