New York City-based architecture firm HWKN has completed the third tower of the iconic Journal Squared Project in New Jersey, realizing a ten-year vision for urban transformation.

This tower, the culmination of a decade of visionary planning, represents the final component of a dynamic transit-oriented community, contributing 598 lease-residences and nearly 18,000 square feet (1,672 square meters) of amenity spaces intended for social and active living.

"Witnessing our vision materialize after a decade, and realizing the potency of our chosen design – one that blends timeless aesthetics with a socially activated base – is profoundly exhilarating," said Matthias Hollwich, Founding Principal of HWKN

"The transformation from a transit hub to a thriving urban community is what Journal Squared was always meant to achieve," Hollwich added.

This new 59-story tower complements two existing high-rise buildings, one with 53 stories and the other with 70.

Together, they offer a total of 1,840 apartments and 36,000 square feet dedicated to retail and dining. HWKN, in collaboration with Handel Architects, designed each tower to softly link with the ground, resulting in a lively and accessible foundation.

The towers’ open lobbies and destination retail, combined with tree-filled plazas and open markets, have converted the previous parking lots and PATH station areas into vibrant green spaces that host farmers' markets, film screenings, and community events.

Situated directly across the Hudson from Manhattan, Journal Squared offers residents and the local community a novel model of urban living, blending architecture, communal areas, and retail in an environment that promotes social interaction.

The panoramic sky lounge at the top of the latest tower is the project’s standout feature, providing stunning views and promoting a sense of community among all residents of Journal Squared.
