Villa Cardo has low-rise and climbable all-white walls overlooking at olive and almond trees in Carovigno, Puglia, Italy.
Designed by Barcelona-based architecture studio Studio Andrew Trotter, this villa looks like a small castle due to its intimate and small scale.
The house, covering a 120-square-metre area, was designed as a three bedroom house which shows its strong presence with a play of cubic volumes.
A large open swimming pool in front of the house marks the building and creates its own entryway. According to the architects, it is a continuation of the Masseria Moroseta house that the studio previously designed.
Inspired by the Pugliese vernacular style, Villa Cardo has been built with local materials and using traditional building methods to ensure its own climatic conditions such as keeping the building light, airy and cool in the summer.
The house comprises a large living and dining room, a master bedroom with an en-suite bathroom, composed of a bath, and a double shower. This bedroom has its own veranda, outdoor bath, and private garden with an outdoor shower.
The house also includes additional two bedrooms, one with a double bed and one with two single beds, that can also be used as a small living area, with a shared bathroom.
Downstairs there is a TV room, that can also sleep two people, bathroom and Turkish bath with outdoor shower. In addition to the main house, there is an old “lamia” country house, that can sleep two people with a large bathroom.
An outdoor kitchen with barbeque, wood-fired oven, dining terrace, outdoor sofa, and sunbeds surround the pool. On the roof, there is a large terrace with great views of the sea, can be reached via a staircase.
Situated within one hectare of land, the house is filled with olive and almond trees. The sea is 7km away, with the amazing Torre Guaceto Natural Reserve being the closest beach.
Carovigno is the closest town, and Ostuni is only 15 minutes drive. Villa Cardo is only 15 minutes from Brindisi airport and 1 hour from Bari Airport.
