How BIM can help reduce costs for the designing and can manage design processes faster, discussed Harry Ibbs, Head of BIM at Zaha Hadid Architects, at the Architecture of the Future Conference. 

Talking at the BIM (Building Information Modeling) panel, Ibbs stated that "it's part of the whole design process, not coming after the project."

"ZHA have been invested BIM for many years to make the design process better, faster and in an accurate workflow to meet the clients' demands in ever-changing layout," added Ibbs. 

"It's a holistic approach, should not be considered as a separate workflow." "We have a strategic workflow with a big staff, and real time models, coordination, creating models quickly are just part of the BIM to help design decisions quickly and avoid unintended budgets in the projects."

"These are, like Mercury House in Malta, Skolkovo Innovation Center in Moscow, big projects and there are a lot of risk involved. So as long as you use the BIM, you update the project parametrically." 

The Architecture of the Future Conference is being held on October 4-5, 2018 Kyiv, which is the biggest architecture conference in Eastern Europe, and brings together authorities, architects, engineers, developers, media to discuss the "architecture of the future trends" in Kyiv, Ukraine for the first time. 

Harry Ibbs was one of the speakers talking at BIM panel today at the conference. Ibbs, especially, talked about the benefits of constructibility of the buildings through BIM. He added that "we're producing fluid forms and spaces but how we are going to build these buildings, is a very important question." 

"So the use of BIM is not only about constructability or adaptive elements, it also about the accurate scheduling and cost efficiencies as a whole." 

"We have BIM team, we have VR team to see the reality of the construction and designing the building with an accurate budget and faster process." 

"With the help of these kinds of modeling techniques or BIM, you don't need to send separate pdf drawings to your client, you can just send the link to check all data," Ibbs added. 

"It immediately make the process faster in the projects." 

Ibbs also emphasized how they work with clients by offering BIM, whether it is part of the project contract or not, by sharing high-risk or low-risk strategies on the projects. 

For the clients, ZHA's low-risk strategy reads that "important to establishing an agreed workflow for ZHA and the best time to switch into BIM. With careful management sticking to BEP, ZHA will get the full return on the investment of setting up to a project in BIM from an early stage."
