International Architecture Competition - Reuse The Nymphaeum

In the countryside of Rome, hidden in a forest outside a small village, there is a forgotten renaissance pavilion. It’s the Bramante’s Nymphaeum, designed by the famous Italian architect Donato Bramante, built at the beginning of the fifteenth century by the Colonna family in Genazzano. It was the main element of a huge garden, with some lakes and a small river, located on the hillside next to the main door of the town. It was abandoned right after its completion.

The fifth edition of the cultural project Reuse Italy promotes an international architecture

competition on the reuse of the Bramante’s Nymphaeum in Genazzano (Roma).

The competition, open to architects, engineers and students, asks the participants to transform the ruin into a theatre and a public park.

The contest is organized in partnership with ArchDaily, KooZarch, Graphisoft, and with the official support of the Municipality of Genazzano ad the local association Proloco.

The deadline is January 22nd, 2023. It’s requested to submit one A1 sheet (59.4x84 cm).

The total prizes are 4000 Euro.

The submitted projects will be displayed at an exhibition in March 2023 in Genazzano, and the winners will be invited to explain their project to the citizenry.

The international Jury members are Kazunori Fujimoto, Helga Blocksdorf, Takeshi Osaka,  Claudio Silvestrin, Lacol Architectura, Tropical Space (Tran Thi Ngu Ngon and Nguyen Hai Long) Federica Sofia Zambeletti (KooZA/rch), Baukunst (Adrien Verschuere), Giovanni Logiudice (Graphisoft).

Is it possible to bring life back inside this forgotten renaissance masterpiece in the countryside of Rome?

The answer to this question is in the hands of the architects, the engineers, and the students who will participate in this competition.
