Design Week Lagos (DWL), Africa’s leading design event, will take place in various venues across Lagos from October 20th to 23rd, 2022 with the theme "Beyond the Box".
DWL, the most notable design week on the African continent, was conceived to champion and elevate leading forces in Contemporary African Design whilst bringing together a community of local and international artists. The festival, founded in 2019 by African design advocate Titi Ogufere and Essential Media Group, is committed to building a culture of innovation in Nigeria and highlighting the fast-growing industry as an international hub for design.
The exhibition has set “Beyond the Box” as the overarching theme for the 2022 edition. The theme sees DWL calling African Designers to use local raw materials, knowledge of African culture, and the latest technology to make authentic modern & contemporary African products.
This theme presents an opportunity to creatively experiment and explore a range of ideas from creative product designs to new pathways in manufacturing methods. All these facilitate the growing community of contemporary designers to tap into a rich history of craftsmanship and unique material knowledge across the continent.
This year’s showcase will see a line-up of the largest ensemble of exhibitors with a new location in a space that doubles previous editions. Some prominent exhibitors include Charles O Job, Jumoke Adenowo, Eva Sonaike, Jade Folawiyo, Olubunmi Adeyemi, Victor Ekpuk, Tejumola Butler Adenuga, Nifemi Bello, Tosin Oshinowo, Seun Oduwole, Pierre Christophe Gam, Tola Akerele and Osaru Alile.
“DWL 2022 is coming out with heightened bragado about the mission to create a recognizable design culture for African design, one that promotes collaboration and fosters strong economic growth," said Titi Ogufere, Founder, Design Week Lagos.
Design Week Lagos will feature multiple highlights events, contests, and speeches by professionals in several connected sectors.
