Stephen Lawrence Memorial Lecture 2014: David Adjaye

September 16 2014  @6.30pm to 9.00pm

Jarvis Suite, 66 Portland Place, London, W1B 1AD, London

World-renowned architect David Adjaye presents the 14th Annual Stephen Lawrence Trust (SLT) Lecture at the RIBA.

Described as an architect with an ‘artist’s sensibility’, David Adjaye OBE, Principal Architect and founder of Adjaye Associates, is one of the leading architects of his generation.

Winner of numerous awards including in his formative years the Bronze Medal for Part 1 Students in 1993 and later the Design Miami/ Designer of the Year Award, his portfolio includes numerous private houses and small projects, as well as major arts centres and important public buildings across Europe, North America, the Middle East, Asia and Africa.

From his pioneering Idea Store library in Whitechapel, the Stephen Lawrence Centre in Deptford, to the Museum of Contemporary Art in Denver, the Nobel Peace Centre in Oslo and the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum for African American History and Culture in Washington DC, he has developed a distinct architecture approach that is inspired by the stories of people and dynamics of place.

In this event the SLT presents an evening of stimulating discussion exploring and revealing the drivers behind Adjaye's landmark works, current projects and his future aspirations. The lecture includes an audience Q&A hosted by Anthony Boulanger (AY Architects) – winner of The Stephen Lawrence Prize in 2013 - and is followed by SLT drinks reception.
