Zaha Hadid Architects designed "a cocoon-like kennel" for UK's Pet Charity - BowWow Haus London, which re-homes and cares for more than 40,000 sick, injured and homeless pets each year. Zaha Hadid Architects are among 80 architects who support this community-based creative engagement.
The public exhibition - called BowWow Haus London - will feature over 80 kennels designed and built by architects, artists, and designers from around the world and it is expected to go on display at iconic London venues in early 2018. Remaining on display until they are sold at the gala auction in May to raise money to benefit the thousands of animals Blue Cross helps annually.
Featuring unique dog kennels in a public exhibition, the project is developed with the US-based Outdoor Arts Foundation who support community-based creative engagement and social responsibility project.
Zaha Hadid Architects' design - named 'Cloud' - is a cocoon-like kennel elevated slightly above ground to protect dogs from cold floor surfaces. The home for a dog or cat is constructed from CNC milled plywood using Zaha Hadid Architects' experience in digital design and fabrication methods.
Proceeds from the auction will go towards the refurbishment of Blue Cross' re-homing centre in Kimpton, UK, as well as furthering the efforts of the Outdoor Arts Foundation promoting community art projects around the world.
"Designed for the BowWow Haus exhibition, Cloud continues our ongoing commitment to support those doing great work in our community," said Patrik Schumacher, principal of Zaha Hadid Architects.
"Blue Cross couldn’t be more excited for this upcoming exhibition and we are delighted to have Zaha Hadid Architects on board," said Matt Cull, deputy director of fundraising.
