Amanda Levete-designed MAAT Museum and reSITE, an international urban provocator and multi-industry debate platform, has teamed up to organise a one-of-a-kind event on "sound" and "architecture" for RESONATE conference in Lisbon. 

The one-day international event, developed in collaboration with California's Meyer Sound, will bring world's best creators of sound spaces and acoustic experiences to the same stage, which is set to be held on February 12, 2018. 

RESONATE will explore new ways of "sound" and "space" as a holistic approach with prominent architects of the most fascinating contemporary music and culture venues and designers of intriguing sound environments. 

Artist-led tours, innovative technologies, demonstrations and performances will be part of the event, on top of keynote lectures and discussions with editors from leading global media.

World Architecture Community is official media partner for RESONATE and will be bringing you the hottest topics, live-discussions and keynote sessions from the one-day event, which will take place at the MAAT Museum, in Lisbon, Portugal.

Amongst 20 international speakers, the organizers have confirmed Kjetil Trædal Thorsen, the Founding Partner of Snøhetta who will present the secrets of their successful Oslo Opera House.

"This one-day conference at MAAT constitutes a unique opportunity to gain an interdisciplinary and creative perspective into a seldom discussed topic, but one that truly affects the way architectural space is perceived and appreciated," explained Pedro Gadanho, Director of MAAT Museum, an innovative institution attractive by its breathtaking building, one of the latest achievements of Amanda Levete located at the seafront with iconic Lisbon views.

A representative of Diller Scofidio + Renfro, architects of Los Angeles's Broad Museum and The Shed between New York’s High Line and Hudson Yards, will speak about their achieved and future projects.

Peer is a partner in the practice and head of design for the Danish and Scandinavian market. Having joined Henning Larsen in 1986, Peer possesses a unique understanding of the company’s history and design method. For more than 30 years he has been an essential part of Henning Larsen’s development, including notable contributions to shaping practice’s profile in cultural projects and urban planning. 

Peer has stood at the helm for many of Henning Larsen's major works, including as head partner for all phases of Harpa Concert Hall and Conference Center (winner of the Mies van der Rohe Award in 2013), Hangzhou East Lake Opera in southern Shanghai and the Copenhagen Opera House.

Kimmelman will be speaking at reSITE for the second time after reSITE's annual conference in Prague, held under the title of "Cities in Migration" last year. 

Michael Kimmelman is an American author, critic, columnist and pianist. He is the architecture critic for The New York Times and has written on issues of public housing, public space, infrastructure, community development and social responsibility. 

He was the paper’s longtime chief art critic – "the most acute American art critic of his generation," in the words of the Australian writer Robert Hughes.

RESONATE is the fruit of a new partnership between co-organizers, both fostering innovation and globally relevant dialogue:

MAAT, offering a common ground for discovery and critical thinking that crosses art, architecture and technology; reSITE, a leading voice in Europe in the field of rethinking architecture and public space to make cities more livable with a 6-year experience in designing international, interactive and cross-disciplinary events.

Bill Fontana is an American composer and artist who developed an international reputation for his pioneering experiments in sound. SInce the early 70’s Fontana has used sound as a sculptural medium to interact with and transform our perceptions of visual and architectural spaces.

The event is closely related to Bill Fontana’s Shadow Soundings sound and live streaming installation at MAAT and will offer the last opportunity to explore it on an artist-led tour, before its closing.
