Zaha Hadid Architects unveils design for a supertall mixed-use skyscraper in New York

A 1,400 foot-tall (427 meter) emblematic skyscraper designed by Zaha Hadid Architects will be added to other supertall structures in midtown Manhattan, which will be developed by Kushner Companies-a company owned by the family of Jared Kushner, President Donald Trump’s son-in-law and senior adviser and married to his daughter Ivanka Trump.
ZHA's supertall mixed-use tower is located at 666 Fifth Avenue between 52nd and 53rd Street and the plans will be transformed from 1950s existing building by stripping its steel core from top-down and adding 40 additional floors above its height.
The $12 billion plans are based on a big deal between Kushner Companies and Anbang Insurance Group announced earlier this month as Bloomberg noted. Kushner Companies is still holding discussions with Anbang Insurance Group for a multi-billion dollar deal to finance the project. If everything goes on a plan, Kushner Companies will begin construction to ZHA-designed garish tower.
The building features a 464,000-square-feet (43,100 square metres) of residential space for condominiums, an 11-story hotel, and retail space across the first nine floors. The project aims to rebrand the property as 660 Fifth Avenue and if completed, it will be located near-by of Jean Nouvel-designed 53 West 53rd Street building, which is under construction.
Kushner Companies owned by Jared Kushner and he served as chief executive officer until he resigned to take on the position of Senior Advisor to his father-in-law, President Donald J. Trump.
Before realisation of the project, Kushner needs to buy out Vornado Realty Trust's share and the leases of other tenants as wells as refinance existing debt. If those deals are made by the end of this year, demolition work is planned to begin in late 2019 and the completion would begin in 2025.
As the uncertainties continue for the development, Zaha Hadid Architects has not officially unveiled the project with details yet. Zaha Hadid Architects will expand its portfolio for North American projects with the 666 Fifth Avenue project -the firm's 520 west 28th residences is nearing completion, adjacent to High-Line Residential Building.
