It’s official! World’s longest pedestrian suspension bridge opened in Switzerland

The Zermatt, Switzerland’s tourism office, has officially announced that this suspension bridge is the globe's longest bridge to walk on it for hikers and new travel experiences, has now been opened to the public on Saturday in Switzerland. Located in the Swissrope / Lauber Seilbahnen AG, Frutigen, it connects Grächen and Zermatt along the Europaweg at a dizzying height and was constructed in only 10 weeks. Spanning 494-metre-long, the bridge is suspended at 85 meters above the deepest cut valley in Switzerland.

The bridge presents other superlatives to experience in the surroundings along the Europaweg from Grächen to Zermatt: the highest mountains in Switzerland soar into the heavens. The path runs between 1,600 meters and 2,200 meters above sea level.

"Anyone setting off along the Europaweg from Grächen will always have the most famous mountain in Switzerland, the Matterhorn, before them. And those hiking towards Grächen always see the Bernese Alps," stated Zermatt.

Swissrope has already built countless suspension bridges in Switzerland and abroad and thus installed sensational connection bridges with Swiss quality work. Among others is the suspension bridge near Furi above Zermatt. Now there is nothing in the way of an unusual hiking experience along the Europaweg near Randa.

The visitors will be able to pass from one valley to another in only 10 minutes. The suspension bridge was closed in 2010 because of the instable terrain. Since then, hikers had to make a detour to the valley and then back up along the trail above Randa.

The new images of the world’s highest and longest glass-bottom bridge in China revealed last year. The 430-metre-long and 6-metre wide glass-bottom bridge is accepted as the most scariest bridge in the world with its transparent and brittle look structure. China also opened world’s highest Beipanjiang Bridge to traffic in the Guizhou earlier this year.
