A Talk by Akeel Bilgrami , Sidney Morgenbesser Professor of Philosophy, Columbia University
"What philosophical outlook did Gandhi's critique of the West represent at the time he wrote it? What can we retain from it and what should we discard? Akeel Bilgrami will reflect on these questions with a view to trying to understand Gandhi's India and our own, and with a view to coming to some understanding of the ideas and ideologies of the political 'Enlightenment'."

Akeel Bilgrami, is the Sidney Morgenbesser Professor of Philosophy at Columbia University & faculty member on the Committee on Global Thought.He has obtained a B.A., Bombay University, a B.A. from Oxford University and a Ph.D., University of Chicago. Professor Bilgrami has two relatively independent sets of intellectual interests-in the Philosophy of Mind and Language, and in Political Philosophy and Moral Psychology especially as they surface in politics, history, and culture.
