The Melbourne School of Design building has been awarded an Honor Award for Architecture by the American Institute of Architects (AIA) New York.

The AIA New York’s annual Design Awards Program recognizes outstanding architectural design by AIA New York Chapter members, New York City based architects in any location, and work in New York City by architects around the globe. The Architecture category recognizes design excellence in completed buildings, and an Honor Award represents the highest level of achievement. The purpose of the awards program is to honor the architects, clients, and consultants who work together to achieve design excellence.

The Faculty’s new home is a purpose-built, studio-focussed facility for contemporary courses in Architecture, Building and Planning, an outcome of an open call for expressions of interest from architectural firms worldwide. Melbourne’s John Wardle Architects and Boston firm NADAAA combined their expertise to deliver the winning design. The Japanese Room and the Joseph Reed façade, key features from the previous building, are incorporated into the new building.
