Nanyang Primary School Reaches Its Colourful Completion!
United Kingdom Architecture News - Mar 02, 2015 - 11:14 19463 views
Nanyang Primary School on Kings Road in Singapore has been completed. studio505 are very proud to be involved with such an amazing project.
Studio505 were invited to provide designs for the redevelopment of an existing primary school in Singapore. The existing site sits on a steep slope positioned in a way that works against the natural sloping characteristics of the site. The current entry to school is through a large kindergarten building to the west which acts as a wall, creating an uninviting barrier.
Studio505’s concept aims to create a dialogue between the new buildings and the sloping surfaces. The concept proposes to align the built volumes perpendicular to the slopes of the hillside thus creating a large inviting central valley that not only serves as the entry to the site but also guides the visitor gently up the existing hill deeper to the heart of the school site.
The existing open courtyard will be reinterpreted into a landscaped open central valley creating a variety of spaces for different activites and encourages students to engage and make the most of the outdoor environment.
