SHoP Architects exhibited Flotsam&Jetsam-the world’s first largest 3D-printed object installed in this year's Miami Design District’s iconic Jungle Plaza. Design Miami took place between November 30-December 4, 2016 - the venue is adjacent to the Miami Beach Convention Center, a short walk from Art Basel in Miami Beach.

SHoP Architects was given the 2016 Panerai Design Miami/ Visionary Award in November for its bold, evocative architecture, philanthropic initiatives, sustainable development, and innovative practices/entrepreneurship.
The studio was also invited to create an environment at the gateway to the exhibition. SHoP'S installation, Flotsam & Jetsam, exists at the intersection of Miami's celebrated spirit of play, represented by a relocated landscape that mimics the beach, but also the city's emergent function as a center for creative visioning and technological discovery.

SHoP brought in Branch Technology, which is working to make material printing viable as a full-scale, practical means of construction, and the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), to provide a second printing technology that uses a biodegradable bamboo medium.
After Design Miami, Flotsam & Jetsam will be moved to the Miami Design District's Jungle Plaza where it will house an outdoor cultural program in partnership with Miami's Institute of Contemporary Art.
