Even if nothing ever comes of it, the new plan to tear down McCormick Place's Lakeside Center to make way for the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art reveals something important: The power of an idea — the idea that Chicago's shoreline is a public trust owned by all of us.
In its new location, according to published reports, it would use the Lakeside Center's existing underground parking, heating and cooling systems, and storage areas.
