United Kingdom Architecture News - Apr 01, 2016 - 14:51 13762 views
World-renowned architect Zaha Hadid has passed away on Thursday, March 31, 2016. Hadid's sudden death was an unexpected for everyone, especially for the profession. Her incisive attitude, speculative personality and contradictive works always opened up a new discussion, started new conversation, filled the gaps and interrogated the way we produce architecture in a different manner. That was in style. Zaha Hadid was an innovative, progressive and prominent name in the world of architecture not just as the most successful architect in the world but as the most successful woman in the architecture world.
Zaha Hadid's works were not only included innovative forms, geometries through her special architectural language awaken into the reality but she also created numerous designs that become distinctive and specific character of many architectural projects. Zaha continued to her progressive carrier in other fields as well- exhibitions, interior, product, furniture and fashion. The expanded version of international success was shaped in the new brand, which was called ''Zaha Hadid Design''.
Titled as 'Z-Island' in the special collection, I think it is the best description of her works to entitle her other design works, which also came into market with ''Zaha Hadid Design''. The boundaries of Hadid's works undoubtedly exceeds architecture and goes beyond a simple 'brandaliasm' with new forms, colors and materiality. Her works set up a new plane of inquiry over her unique theory and transformed many abstracted forms into the reality, which made her 'exclusive' in the architecture field.
Zaha Hadid's renowned success helped to pave the way for women in architecture on a global scale as well. She became a role model for many woman architects in a male dominated field and she proved that every architect can be successful worldwide if they trust themselves and they believe what they do.
''Your success will not be determined by your gender or your ethnicity, but only on the scope of your dreams and your hard work to achieve them. Understand the importance of trusting others. Learn from the skills and experience of other people. Teamwork is very important'' said Zaha Hadid to BBC in the International Women's Day, within the scope of BBC's Arts Project.
After Hadid tragic loss, Stirling prize winner Amanda Levete: “She was an inspiration. Her global impact was profound and her legacy will be felt for many years to come because she shifted the culture of architecture and the way that we experience buildings. When my son was very young, Zaha showed him how to write his name in Arabic. It was the moment I realised the genesis of her remarkable architectural language.
“She was an extraordinary role model for women. She was fearless and a trailblazer – her work was brave and radical. Despite sometimes feeling misunderstood, she was widely celebrated and rightly so.” told The Guardian.
