The winners for Fast Company’s prestigious Innovation by Design Awards were recently announced, live on FastCoDesign.com.  SITU Studio is pleased to share that our design research and proposal Invisible New York was named a Finalist in the City Solutions category.  The project along with the work of all the winners and finalists, is highlighted in the October issue of the print magazine.
Invisible New York focuses on the informal component of New York City’s housing market and seeks to place it squarely within conversations about affordability.  SITU’s design strategy addresses the hidden density of New York’s informal housing not by trying to shift residents elsewhere, but rather, by proposing a way for communities to thrive within the neighborhoods they already inhabit.  This work was commissioned by the Museum of Modern Art for the recent exhibition Uneven Growth: Tactical Urbanisms for Expanding Megacities and is currently on view at the MAK – Austrian Museum of Applied Arts/Contemporary Art in conjunction with the inaugural Vienna Biennale.
