The Heatherwick Studio was invited to create a combined design studio and exhibition space for the Chinese fashion brand Tangy. The challenge was to respond to the surrounding natural landscape, characterised by rural flatlands and ponds.
To soften the impact of a new structure within this landscape, we designed a seamless rectangular box and then pulled it into two parts. The result is a building with a complex geometric texture formed of identical, repeating terracotta elements. The building is currently in construction and contains exhibition space, showrooms, private studios, café and research area.
