The Design Museum is pleased to announce that the respected curator and writer Justin McGuirk is to join its staff as Chief Curator this month.
The post will see McGuirk shape the museum's creative content across every department as a member of its Exhibitions team. He will play a significant role in the yet to be announced opening programme for the Design Museum’s new home in Kensington, due to open in late 2016. McGuirk is at the head of Design Curating & Writing at Design Academy Eindhoven. He has been the director of Strelka Press, the design critic of The Guardian, and the editor of Icon magazine. In 2012 he was awarded the Golden Lion at the Venice Biennale of Architecture for an exhibition he curated with Urban Think Tank. His book Radical Cities: Across Latin America in Search of a New Architecture is published by Verso.
The museum also announces today that it has appointed Tom Wilson as Head of Collection and Research, starting in September. Wilson is currently completing a PhD on the Display Strategies of the former Commonwealth Institute, and will lead the development and implementation of the Collection, Library and Archive for the new museum, as a member of its Learning and Research team.
