is an initiative within University College London to developemerging computer technologies in several disciplines which deal withgeography, space, location, and the built environment. As aninterdisciplinary research centre expertise is drawn from archaeology, architecture, cartography, computer science, environmental science, geography, planning, remote sensing, geomatic engineering, andtransport studies. This generates a unique blend of personnel whooperate from CASA and associated departments within UCL. We recentlymoved from the Faculty of Social and Historical Sciences into theFaculty of the Built Environment.CASA currently has 10 Research Fellows undertaking research projectsdealing with spatial problems and policies which link urban design toGIS to online multi-user environments. These posts are funded fromvarious sources, such as Research Councils, Government agencies andCASA’s consultancy activity. When vacancies do arise they are alwaysadvertised on our homepage. There are around 30 Mphil/PhD students studying at CASA. Most of thesestudents are self-funded because scholarships are very competitive anddifficult to obtain. Each student is supervised by Michael Batty orPaul Longley and has a second supervisor from their registereddepartment. In addition, there are usually 2 or 3 distinguishedinternational Academic Visitors at CASA interacting with our PhDstudents. Their visits can range from 2 – 12 months, which is largelydependent upon desk availability. Please use the sub-menu links to find further information about coming to CASA.
