Jonathan Hughes has been in the field of architecture for the past 20 years, the last 14 years with NORR. During this time, he has been heavily involved in both strategic business development through all market sectors as well as office management and operations.
Jonathan has managed both our Kingston and Ottawa offices and Public Buildings for NORR across Eastern Canada. Recently, he has been relocated to Toronto, promoted to Executive Vice-president and oversees the Toronto, Ottawa and Kingston offices.
Areas of focus have included: design, coordination and management for institutional projects in the following sectors: justice, defence, government, education and sports and leisure facilities. He has acted as the LEED® AP for repurposed heritage facilities, post-secondary institutions, and sports arenas. Jonathan is regularly published in corrections magazines throughout Canada and the USA including being quoted on correctional facilities design in UK’s MADE magazine and authoring The Role of the Architectural Team in the Design and Construction of Correctional Facilities, Canadian Corrections, March 2011.
Jonathan has been involved in more than 50 Justice facilities of varying sizes and requirements and at all levels of security including some of NORR`s most important public sector projects: the Collins Bay and Kingston Penitentiary Redevelopments, the Southwest Detention Centre, The Renfrew County Courthouse and the Housing Unit projects at both Collins Bay and Bath Institution.
Jonathan’s focus is on the strategic pursuits of large, complex institutional projects. He was a strategic member of our Joint Venture team for the pursuit of the Centre Block Rehabilitation Project, Ottawa which was scored second. Recently, he was instrumental in winning, being shortlisted or pursuing the New Toronto Courthouse, the Halton Regional Courthouse (PDC), the Abbotsford Courthouse Complex, The Ottawa and Thunder Bay Correctional Complexes (PDC), The Macdonald Block Rehabilitation, The Energy Services Acquisition Project (ESAP).
In addition, Jonathan is leading three of the most significant Federal Government projects underway in Ottawa including: the redevelopment of the 180 Wellington Building, the Rehabilitation of the Sir John A. Macdonald Building, the Carling Campus Project involving 2.5 million sf of renovation work for Department of National Defence, and most recently the façade replacement for the Les Terraces de la Chaudière complex in Gatineau, Québec.
