In 1956, he was admitted to Architectural Association School of Architecture {AA}, and proceeded to London in September that year. He was the first Pakistani student at AA, and remained deeply interested in cinema, theatre, music and art. His circle of friends was multi-cultural, including students from Turkey, Greece, Finland, Iran, etc. After three years there, he took a break, then put in two more years to earn his diploma, qualifying in 1962. The following year he returned to Karachi, to his family home in Love Lane, Garden West.
