Born and raised in George Town, the UNESCO world heritage site of Malaysia, Thierry Lye obtained his BA (architecture) with Honours in National University of Singapore, and subsequently completed his PG Dip in Architecture in the Mackintosh School of Architecture. He was on exchange to the École Nationale Supérieur d'Architecture Versailles, where he found his architectural quest and style.

Thierry’s final year project, Polemic Architecture - Proposal of the New French Parliamentary Quarter has won him several awards and nominations, including Glasgow Institute of Architects (GIA) Student Commendation Award, Royal Institute of British Architect’s President Silver Medal nomination, and ARCHIPRIX Biennale Award nomination representing the Mackintosh School of Architecture. In 2015 Thierry was featured in the Wallpaper Magazine’s Graduate Directory among top graduates from all over the world. He also exhibited his work in the Royal Scottish Academy's New Contemporaries 2015 exhibition in Edinburgh.

Thierry joined the award-winning Arc Studio in Singapore during his practical training year, where he worked on several projects of various stages. He joined BDP Glasgow Studio as an architect assistant in 2014, working on retail and education projects. Other than work, Thierry is actively involved in the New Glasgow Society, a civic society that raises awareness about built environment in Glasgow. He organises exhibitions and talks with aim to create discourse between architecture and public realm.
