SMAQ is a collaborative studio that operates in the field of architecture, urbanism and research. SMAQ was founded by the architects Sabine Müller and Andreas Quednau and is based in Berlin. Sabine Müller holds a position as assistant professor for architecture and urbanism at the Karlsruhe University of Technology. Andreas Quednau is currently visiting professor for architecture and urbanism at the Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart. Both partners hold a Master’s Degree from Columbia University, New York. SMAQ has conducted to a number of urban research projects in Germany, Latin America and Africa dealing with everyday urbanisms and infrastructure and co-published the book “BRAKIN – Visualizing the Visual”. SMAQ has received prizes in several renowned international competitions and their current projects include a sustainable master plan for Dubai. Most recently they implemented a public bath in Stuttgart’s Palace gardens. SMAQ’s work has been featured in numerous international publications including Domus, AD, Area, Architectura Viva, Bauwelt, and Volume and has been widely exhibited at galleries and biennials including the Architecture Biennials in Rotterdam and Miami.
