Denis Hickel is graduated from Ritter dos Reis University, Porto Alegre, Brazil in 2000, with degree in Architecture and Urbanism. He began his professional career in Porto Alegre collaborating with local architects. In 2002 he formed a partnership which became The 4+ Architects. Since 2005, when moved to Portugal has been collaborating with different Architectural firms and Portuguese Architects. Since 2008 is PhD student in the Technical University of Lisbon.

With ten years of professional experience has a great variety of expertise from architectural design to planning. Has worked intensely on various projects as interior design, housing projects, cultural buildings, planning and landscape.

Along 2008, In collaboration with Aula do Risco and The Glub Architects formed the group which became The Rhizome 21, a multidisciplinary platform for the facilitation of sustainable solutions.

His concerns within sustainability issues and the raising interest in the role of designers as transdisciplinary facilitators and integrators, lead him to engage with projects as the Rhizome 21 and collaboration in the European Project SAVE ENERGY.
