AION is an architectural practice engaging with the complexity of built environments through an integral approach. Matter, technique and function are treated as a continuum through a design process triggering novelty out of sistematicity and assessing praxis as a form of creative engineering of life. AION initiated its activities in 2005 to become a registered practice based in Siracusa, Italy in 2008. The studio was founded by Andrea Di Stefano (1973, Italy) and Aleksandra Jaeschke (1976, Poland), both graduated from the Architectural Association in London in 2005. In parallel to commissioned design projects and feasibility studies, AION runs research initiatives, organises student workshops and contributes to the international debate through lectures and publications. Studio AION was part of “Unplugged Italy, Italian Architecture in Oslo”, an exhibition and a series of lectures promoting young Italian architecture which took place in Oslo in 2009. AION has been recently awarded the newitalianblood price for one of the TOP 10 Architects Under 40 in Italy and later on in Poland and has been selected for the forthcoming “27/37 Exhibition of Young Italian Architecture” hosted by the Italian Pavilion at the Shanghai Expo 2010. AION projects have been published internationally.
