Currently, Adjunct Professor of Architecture at Judson University teaching the 4th year Traditional Architecture & Urbanism concentration. He has lectured at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design, Columbia University Graduate School of Business in the Real Estate Development MBA Program, and served as an adjunct faculty member at The New York University Real Institute. He was a guest instructor at the North Carolina State University School of Architecture, and has presented continuing education programs to the American Institute of Architects National Convention in Chicago, AIA South Atlantic Regional Conference, and AIA Wisconsin State Convention.

John is a founding member of CNU (Congress for the New Urbanism) Illinois Chapter, was elected the organizations first Treasurer and currently serves as Chair through 2010. He leads the organizations effort to educate the general public on the positive impact of New Urbanism Principles on our built environment. In December 2009 John obtained CNU Accreditation.

Most recently he was Director of Design for Bigelow Homes in Aurora and Town Architect for Home Town Aurora. John now practices as JOHN BARIE SUSTAINABLE URBANISM where his work promotes the principles of New Urbanism, Traditional Neighborhood Design, and Sustainability.
