Dr. Jonas Žukas received his PhD in the field of Universal Design from Vilnius Tech in 2021 and currently researches intuitive spatial design. He is an Associate Professor in the Department of Design at Vilnius Tech and has previously taught Product Design at Raffles Education Corporation in Singapore and Mumbai. He has also introduced his methods at European institutions including Brno University of Technology in Czechia, Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden, and colleges in Lithuania. Žukas holds BA (2001) and MA (2004) degrees in Sculpture from the Vilnius Academy of Arts. Since 2001, he has participated in international contemporary art exhibitions as an installation and object artist. He has contributed to major European and Hollywood film productions as a set designer and sculptor, and in recent years has curated design collaborations for Lithuanian cities’ public spaces, infrastructure, and universally accessible environments. This artistic and professional experience supports his academic work, in which he develops analytical systems for aesthetic shape modeling and assessment. His research focuses on material environment quality, embodied cognition, generative modeling, and cultural legibility of shape.
