I am an architect based in Karachi and have been practicing since 1995. The two year Masters` Program at the Aga Khan Program at MIT between 1997-99, helped me to understand the architectural discourse of Muslim communities and the need to develop a contemporary language that is representative of our times and philosophy.

I believe in the expression "the past was another country, they did things differently there." Inspiration may be taken from history in terms of principals and then contextualized into a modern idiom. In addition, I think one of the key reasons for the overall failure of our architectural thought process and its manifestation, is harboring on to or/and imitating the past. I consider Louis Kahn, Mario Botta, Renzo Piano and Tadao Ando to be true geniuses, and their work a constant source of inspiration.
