Ali A. Alraouf, Ph.D., M. Arch., B. SC.

Ali A. Alraouf, born in Cairo, Egypt is an architect interested in research related to architectural and environmental design. He is focusing on researches within the domain of theory, criticism and creativity in architecture.

He Holds a Ph.D. in architecture (1996) from Cairo University- Egypt and California at Berkeley-USA (joint program), , a Master of architecture (1991), and a Bachelor of architecture (1986) from Cairo University. He was a Visiting Scholar at Center for Environmental Design Research at University of California at Berkeley-USA (1993-1995). Alraouf held teaching positions at Cairo University, UC-Berkeley, 6th October University, Modern Sciences and Arts University (MSA), High Institute of Architecture and for the last two years at University of Bahrain.

Ali A. Alraouf has joined University of Bahrain at the beginning of the Fall semester 2004. Since then, he is working on a full time basis as an assistant professor of architecture. Alraouf is a founder and Principal of Environmental design Group (EDG) that is a consultancy firm, based in Cairo, working in a variety of projects and buildings.

He is also a founding member and first chairman of Egyptian Earth Construction Association (EECA), the first Egyptian NGO working in the field of Appropriate Building Technologies. Alraouf is a board member of society of Egyptian architects (SEA) and he was chairing the young architects committee.

Dr. Ali Alraouf was working as an associate professor of Architecture and environmental design in Cairo University and head of architecture dept. at modern sciences and arts university MSA. In addition, He is working as a consultant for several environmental and architectural projects in Egypt.

His current research interests are: (1) The place of children in contemporary Arab cities; (2) The role of sustainable architecture in preserving and developing of natural protectorates; (3) The impact of the global model of development on the Image of Cairo. (4) The architectural Impact of Globalization; the post-globalized built environment. (5) Traditional Smart Buildings. (6) Knowledge Cities.

Dr. Ali Alraouf is currently teaching at University of Bahrain, in the dept. of Architecture. He also writes extensively in newspapers, periodicals and architectural magazines locally and internationally.
