Richard Emery, AIA, is President of TBE Architects (Thalden Boyd Emery). After earning his architecture degree from University of Kansas, he joined Barry Thalden's firm in 1982 and eventually became a Principal owner. Now Rich leads design and production for all projects. His design talent has inspired the firm to create award-winning projects for over 36 years. Rich is best known for designing hotels, casinos, and resorts in gaming markets throughout North American.
Rich invests countless hours to researching current and emerging trends, including the growing demand for “Integrated Casino Resort” properties, and which amenities which are most appealing to multi-generational guests. As an accomplished architect, Rich has been instrumental in the design and development of projects collectively worth several billion dollars.
Complimenting his vast knowledge of casino and resort design, Rich has been at the cutting edge of CADD technology, Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Virtual Reality which has allowed him to accurately apply fast-tracking and phasing of projects.
As the design principal for TBE’s Architectural practice, Rich practices and promotes a bold and innovative integration of the creative disciplines, resulting in a body of work—projects, articles, and lectures—that have profoundly influenced the profession. His architectural sensibilities are especially apparent in some of the most successful tribal casinos throughout the country, from Harrah’s Ak-Chin in Maricopa, Arizona to Hard Rock in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
