Oktay Nayman, the founder of Nayman Architects, graduated from School of Architecture of Istanbul Technical University in1960. Following a short stay in Germany, he joined the ateliér of the late Danish master Jorn Utzon in 1962. During seven years he worked with him he took part, as one of his senior assistants, in all of Utzon’s projects of this period, including his well known major works such as the Sydney Opera House and Kuwait National Assembly Building.
In 1969 Oktay Nayman joined the office of Colin St. John Wilson in London to work on the new British National Libraray project. In 1973 he established Nayman Gavin Associates in London as one of its founding partners. In 1977 he was invited by Washington University in St.Louis, USA as a visiting professor at graduate level design studios. He continued his academic assignments in USA at the State Universities of New York and Iowa.
In 1986 he became a founding partner of ZNA / Zeybekoglu Nayman Associates in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Returning to Istanbul in 1991 he worked on major projects, and in 1997 was presented with the European Steel Design award by ECCS (European Convention for Constructional Steelwork).
Presently Oktay Nayman is continuing his architectural work at his firm Nayman Architects in Istanbul.
