Jiyuan Zhang, received her Bachelor of Architecture from The Cooper Union – Irwin S. Chanin School of Architecture, her Master of Architecture in Urban Design from GSD Harvard University. She is a registered architect in the State of New York, a member of the American Institute of Architects, as well as a certified member of National Council of Architectural Registration Boards. Her portfolio includes Museum for Qujing Culture Center, CCUP pavilion, Beiji Island Master planning, Wuli Epoch Experiment Center, BIT Sports Center, Dali Transformer Theatrical Park etc.
Prior to setting up her practice, Jiyuan worked for Atelier Raimund Abraham and RMJM North America. During that time, she participated in numerous international projects, which includes the Jingya Ocean Entertainment Center Beijing, the Madinat Al Soor new island development in Dubai, Abu Dhabi mix used highrise and Washington University science lab. In 2009, she began her own practice Atelier Alter with her partner Xiaojun Bu. Noted for designing from critical analysis of the site, Atelier Alter has been recognized by numerous awards.
Musuem for Qujing Culture Center, which Ying designed in 2009, transferred the metaphysical context of the city into an artistic yet tangible urban space of historic remembrance. The projects has won 2019 Credaward, 2017 First Prize of Huacai Award, 2016 Design Award of Merit SARA Award, and so forth. Her design of CCUP pavilion in 2016 has won the Winner of 2019 German Design Award. Her project of Wuli Epoch in 2017, won 2019 Credaward, 2018 Sino Ocean Products Innovation Award, 2019 IDOL Bronze Award etc.
On top of her practice, Jiyuan’s theoretical research focuses intensely on the architectonic behind the art and craft of the ancient Silk Road, and how the interdisciplinary nature of the Silk Road heritage impacts Architecture and Urban design. Jiyuan has exhibited in the group show of 2018 Factory for Urban Living in Seoul Korea, 2017 Letters to the Mayor in Storefront for Art and Architecture New York, 2017 Ways of life of Experimenta Urbana 8 in Kassel Germany, 2016 "Utopia in the Heterotopia of Chinese Calligraphy"of "Landscape Society — Measurement of the Future" Exhibition in Himalayas Museum Shanghai.
