Ai Weiwei brightens Berlin’s Konzerthaus facade with 14,000 refugee life jackets

The Chinese artist and activist Ai Weiwei wants to draw attention from used lifejackets and a boat to the people with his installation, who drowned when they fled to Europe in the Mediterranean. Since Friday 14,000 lifejackets, which has received from the Greek island of Lesvos the artists were attached to the columns of the Konzerthaus Berlin. The temporary art installation is an action for the Cinema for Peace Gala, which took place on Monday, 15 February, 2016.
Ai Wewei is always discussed with his special life that attributes to the refugees all around the world. The Chinese artist and activist publishes many photos / videos in his instagram account over the past month, revealing the real-life, hard conditions, undiscovered face of refugees with women and children in Greek Island of Lesvos. Ai Weiwei lives with many refugess and brings their life into a global arena to attract the authorities' and public attraction.
In this installation, Ai Weiwei used 14,000 life jackets of refugees to adress to the countless life of woman, man and child, continuing to live at lesvos. Each jacket represents someone's life and wraps the monumental column of the Konzerthaus Berlin that also brightens the facade of the building with orange color. Wewei's installation goes beyond simple materiality and dramatic attention and his installattion social activism turns into an art piece derived from an unforgettable real-time experince. The creative work has been installed for the Cinema for Peace Gala, held on 15 February, 2016.
