Unit number 4 was an office space covering 100 square meters, spatially arranged into a main hall and two rooms. Over time, the need for changes and varying methods of use led to numerous alterations within this unit, which significantly impacted the spatial quality, structural integrity, and accessibility.
The project was defined by structuring the spatial and physical attributes of the unit. Initially, the service areas, including the restroom and pantry, were planned and enclosed, with the rest of the space remaining cohesive and divided into three primary zones. Glass partitions were used to preserve the space’s unity while ensuring all areas received natural light. The layout comprised of two “rooms” designed for definite functions and a larger “space” designed to host a variety of activities and encounters. An analysis of these events identified shared traits of unpredictability, recurrence, and temporariness.

The challenge was providing separate spaces for various programs within the limited space available. Considering the identical spatial configurations of these programs when inactive, they were overlapped into a single flexible space.

The concept of flexibility brought the potential for modifications in the function, scale, and atmosphere of the space; this concept was central to approaching this issue.

To realize this, a mobile mechanism was implemented. Its adaptable nature allowed for various spatial configurations by the user. Facilitating diverse scenarios, allowing for the simultaneous creation of spaces like improvised meetings area, a dining section, a collaborative discussion zone, and a waiting room.
