Crafting Twinstrings' Studio - A Fusion of Acoustics and Aesthetics

A residential apartment in Indirapuram is reborn as the creative hub for India's popular indie band, Twinstrings. This space is a seamless blend of cutting-edge audio technology with a design aesthetic that captures the band's vibrant energy and reputation. Known for their soulful renditions of popular songs and original music with a unique perspective, the band’s creativity takes centre stage in this studio amidst the familiar hum of a residential block.

One of the most striking elements of this studio's design ethos is its bold choice of a singular colour palette that envelops the entire space. A rich, deep hue of charcoal with wooden accents takes centre stage, creating a cohesive visual identity that echoes throughout the studio. This deliberate decision fosters a sense of unity and serves as a canvas upon which the band's vibrant creativity can shine.

The primary challenge was conquering the elusive spectre of sound bleeding. The design incorporates both sound-isolated flooring and an aluminum grid ceiling insulated with sound insulation foam sheets. The exterior was fortified with double-layered windows and cavity walls, creating a 4-inch thick shield against unwanted vibrations. Sandbags raised floorboards, and specially insulated flooring were deployed, while the ceiling crowned with PU Sound Insulation Foam stood guard against external disturbances. Internally, an intricate tapestry of cavity walls, glass wool framing, perforated ply sheet, and fabric quilting forms a symphony of nine layers, ensuring the sanctity of the recording room.

Bucking the trend of corporate formality, the studio boasts an informal zoning marked by a black aluminium grid ceiling and oakwood-coloured flooring. Cable trays and gutters run discreetly along the periphery, eliminating the chaos of wires during jam sessions. The diffused profile lighting illuminates the space and adds an ethereal quality, acting as a dynamic backdrop for performances, live broadcasts, and recordings. The pantry, concealed within a niche by full-length blinds, gives a seamless look. The strategic use of wooden blinds extends to the meeting room, where functionality meets aesthetics, absorbing stray noise and creating a harmonious balance.

A testament to adaptability, a bifold sliding aluminium door separates the meeting room, offering privacy and an open stage for impromptu performances. Sheer curtains delicately divide zones, infusing an intimate warmth into the space. Wooden blinds in the pantry area not only conceal seamlessly but absorb any stray noise, preserving the sanctity of the studio.

The space reflects Twinstrings' artistic flair through decor and carefully curated artwork to align with the band's unique style, creating a personalised touch. Versatile seating options and state-of-the-art recording equipment seamlessly integrate into the design, enhancing functionality and aesthetics.

Beyond a recording studio, this space is a seamless fusion of cutting-edge sound engineering and intentional design. Every element is meticulously crafted to support Twinstrings' creative vision. This studio transcends the typical, setting a new standard for how music and design can intertwine. Here, function and form create a symphony. The walls themself become an extension of the creative process, and the design echoes the rhythm of music-making.
