Fashion Forward, Basma-Hane Inward; It is an urban design project prepared in collaboration with architecture and urban planning students, aiming to provide economic development based on the railway and fashion sector in a very busy area of Izmir, including the train station.

The region consists of many types of sub-regions such as fair, business areas, commercial areas and residential areas. A significant part of the commercial areas serve the textile and fashion industry and are clustered around Mimar Kemalettin Street. However, due to the inefficient use of the area and the lack of attractiveness, this street is gradually losing the effectiveness it had in the past. It also has a historical background, as the leather industry had an important place in production in the region in the past. When all these elements were considered together and facilities such as fairs, metro lines and railways were taken into account, the idea of designing a fashion district and the spaces that would serve it emerged.

First of all, the region was examined in sub-regions and a land use analysis was created. Then the existing metro, tram and railway lines; The relationship of these lines with fairs and business areas was examined. At the same time, the mass formation of business centers was examined and it was revealed that there was an existing typology in this region, and it was aimed to integrate this mass typology into the design.

As a design idea, a fashion district idea was adopted that would connect Mimar Kemalettin Street and the train station, benefiting from both the train station and the existing fashion background and revealing the potential of these opportunities.

2023

The main concern of the design is to revive street life as much as possible. In this direction, permeable facades were created at the ground level and open and semi-open spaces were created where people could spend time. In addition, a second ground was created above the ground level, allowing the street to overflow to the upper floor and the activity in the stores to spread there as well. At the same time, this upper ground was intended to increase the quality of life on the ground by acting as a portico.
