Alam Residence is designed around the idea of creating a private living environment while maintaining a strong connection with the outdoors. The residence responds to the client’s requirement for a home that feels distinctive while remaining integrated with its surroundings.

The façade was developed with a restrained material palette of natural stone, brick cladding, and clay tile roofing. These materials establish a grounded character, drawing from the familiar architectural language of the region while giving the residence a contemporary expression.

The courtyard forms the main organizing element of the house, bringing landscape and natural light into the centre of the plan. Designed as a family yard, it acts as a transition space between the different areas of the residence, allowing the family to experience outdoor conditions while maintaining privacy. Beyond its experiential quality, the courtyard improves the environmental performance of the house by encouraging natural airflow and reducing heat accumulation within the internal spaces.

The residence is organized into three connected volumes with distinct functions. The public zone consists of two sets of living spaces, creating separate areas for everyday family activities and guest interactions. The central zone is defined by the courtyard, acting as a buffer and a point of connection between the shared and private areas. The private zone accommodates four bedrooms within a double-height composition, with provision for an additional fifth bedroom in the future.

The play between single and double-height spaces creates variations in scale and movement throughout the house. The changing volumes allow each space to have its own character, from the more intimate single-height areas to the larger, more open double-height spaces.

The west-facing orientation influenced the treatment of the façade, where openings are minimized and controlled through narrow linear windows to reduce direct solar exposure while maintaining natural illumination. Through careful spatial planning, material selection, and climate-responsive design strategies, Alam Residence creates a comfortable home suited to the daily life of its occupants.
